An engineer of a defense plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region was detained for spying for Russian special services, the Prosecutor General's Office and the SBU reported on Tuesday, writes UNN.
An employee of a defense enterprise in the Dnipropetrovsk region, who was transmitting data on the testing of new weapons to the Russian Federation, has been detained
– reported the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, "a 56-year-old employee of the enterprise's classified unit, which develops and tests modern weapon samples, voluntarily cooperated with representatives of Russian special services after contact via messenger."
According to the SBU, the suspect is "an engineer of a strategic defense plant who simultaneously spied for two Russian special services: the FSB and military intelligence (better known as the GRU)."
"According to the case materials, the Rashists recruited the official through his son, who is serving a prison sentence in the aggressor country for drug crimes. In exchange for promises of amnesty for the prisoner, the agent was to collect and transmit secret information about the execution of a defense order to the enemy," the SBU noted.
To do this, the suspect, as stated, planned to use his access to state secrets and actual access to special workshops of the plant.
"He transmitted information to the enemy about tests in the region, including foreign tanks, artillery shells, and one of Ukraine's key operational-tactical missile systems for defense capability. The data included precise testing locations and production volumes. He used various accounts for communication and sent, among other things, photo materials," the prosecutor's office reported.
"Russian special services also hoped to obtain from the 'mole' the geolocations of high-tech premises and the enterprise's industrial zone, which the enemy was preparing for ballistic strikes," the SBU noted.
During searches, as reported by the prosecutor's office, computer equipment, mobile phones, and electronic media with technical documentation for defense purposes were seized.
The man was detained.
"He was notified of suspicion of treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court chose a preventive measure – detention without the alternative of bail," the prosecutor's office noted.
