Donors will allocate 30 million euros for initial restoration work on the "Arch" at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant after the Russian attack; a full repair of the arch is estimated to require 412 million euros, the Ministry of Energy reported, writes UNN.
The Assembly of Donors of the International Cooperation Account will reallocate 30 million euros from the administrative budget to prepare the necessary engineering solutions and procure equipment in advance, which is essential for restoring the functionality of the New Safe Confinement (NSC).
– reported the Ministry of Energy.
The corresponding decision was made in London during the Assembly meeting.
During the meeting, as noted, the final report on the consequences of the damage to the "Arch" and an engineering assessment of possible restoration options were heard, and a "roadmap" for restoration work was considered. The roadmap includes further engineering research, monitoring of corrosion processes in the structure, development of repair projects, and procurement of equipment, the Ministry of Energy indicated.
According to preliminary estimates, 412 million euros are needed for a full repair of the arch. The work must be completed by 2030, given the existing risks of corrosive damage to metal structures, which could further complicate the restoration of the NSC's functionality.
– reported the Ministry of Energy.
The meeting also reviewed the ChNPP report on urgent work performed to prevent depressurization and further destruction of the "Arch" and the results of the IAEA mission's work to support the restoration of the NSC. The analysis of the status of implementation of each of the five Grant Agreements signed between the EBRD and the Chernobyl NPP, and further steps within their implementation, were also discussed.
